It seems like everyday you turn on the TV, listen to the radio, or scroll through social media that there is some sort of unrest occurring. If we shift the focus to Africa, the uproar is louder than you can even imagine due to an outrage of police brutality. The movement: #ENDSARS has caught the attention of the world globally. For the past two weeks, youths have decided to take action for the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a notorious unit of the Nigerian Police with a long record of abuse. Their request was simple…disband and shut down this unit, as well as other unjust issues the country is facing. However, with the terrible governance at hand most of the protesting has been ending up in madness and chaos. Citizens are in fear with no assurance of where to turn to. As a woman who’s DNA runs through the soil of Nigeria, it is very heartbreaking to visualize the rebellion taking place. However, if I’ve learned anything about this year thus far is that: people aren’t just settling for corruption, people want their voices to be heard. We are beginning to take action. We are fighting battles now more than ever. Political injustices are becoming more exposed and a reform is needed drastically. The cry for help is long overdue…
